Smokehouse Museum

The Smokehouse Museum, a replica of one of Christiansburg Institute's early 20th century buildings constructed by the alumni association in 1988, houses a collection of photographs and memorabilia. Period photographs were selected from the Smokehouse Museum collection to create the exhibition titled "A Century of Contribution: Christiansburg Institute and Educational Change in Virginia." Sponsored by a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the exhibit is traveling to museums throughout 2000, 2001, and into 2002.

Edgar A. Long Building

The renovation of the Edgar A. Long Building will allow for additional exhibition space, offering permanent and temporary exhibitions of the institute's history, as well as exhibitions relevant to African American culture and the Emancipation period. A permanent collection of artifacts will be made available for research and study. The Institute recently received title to four of its original 185 acres. These will be developed into an open-air museum featuring, in particular, a Memorial Garden and Principal's Cemetery.
